Contemporary Cashore for Adults

Jane Unlimited, Kristin Cashore
This was very different from everything else I've read by Cashore and offered so many different feels in one book.  At one moment I felt like I was back in Shannon Hale's Austenland, another I experienced something reminiscent of The Hitchhiker's Guide.  My overall feeling at its end was similar to how I felt after Resistance is Futile.  I went in knowing nothing, and so it took me a bit to wrap my head around what Cashore was up to, and I don't want to spell it out...  Once I grasped the premise and angle, I appreciated what she was doing very much, even if the pacing lagged.  The heroine is interesting and unlike anyone I've ever read, and her memories (although sometimes repetitive, even before the plot necessitates they be) are vivid and touching.  There's a little sensuality and some sexual references, but overall it's a very tame book for adult fiction.  For someone looking for a quirky and unusual read who enjoyed all the books listed above.
